The rule
Every photo is deleted 7 days (168 hours) after it finished uploading, whether or not it was printed. The time is fixed at the moment of upload and is never extended, not even by the studio.
From that moment the photo can no longer be opened, even before the deletion job has finished removing the file.
What is deleted
- the original file you uploaded;
- the small previews shown on screen;
- any print-ready copy made from it (for example a JPEG made from a PNG);
- any other copy the studio's systems made.
When photos are deleted earlier
- You remove a photo while ordering: it disappears at once and is deleted from storage.
- You leave an order unfinished: after 24 hours without any change, the unfinished order and its photos are removed.
- A file can't be printed (wrong type, damaged): it is deleted.
How deletion works
An automatic job runs every 10 minutes. It finds photos whose time is up, deletes every copy from storage, checks that each one is really gone, and records the result. If a deletion fails, it is retried and the studio is alerted. A second job looks every night for anything that was missed.
Copies we can't control the same way
Honesty matters here, so:
- Short-lived links. To show you a preview, your browser receives a link that works for at most 5 minutes.
- Network cache. After deletion, the storage network can keep serving a copy for up to 60 seconds.
- Database backups contain order records but no photos.
- At the studio. To print, staff download photos to studio computers. Studio rules require these copies to be deleted after printing, and the studio's computers are cleaned regularly.
Orders not yet printed
If an order hasn't been printed 48 hours before its photos expire, the studio is warned so it can print in time. The 7 days are not extended. If a photo expires before printing, the studio contacts you and you can upload it again.
What we keep
After the photos are deleted, the order record remains (order number, prints, price, name and delivery address) for as long as accounting law requires. It contains no photos. See the privacy policy for details.
